Cain Morrow is unfazed by James Slavin’s most recent first-round victory ahead of their clash this Saturday at Almighty Fighting Championship 29.
The pair are set to be locked in the Almighty FC cage this Saturday in the Metrodome in Barnsley.
Morrow, who stands at 2-1 in his early amateur career, is coming off a first-round stoppage of his own when he dispatched Luke Kerrison at Caged Steel 30 last December.
We caught up with Cain Morrow to get his thoughts ahead of his fourth amateur fight this weekend. Read the full exclusive interview below.
Interview With Cain Morrow
I imagine you’re all set to make the walk for the first time this year on Saturday night at Almighty Fighting Championship 29. How have things been since your most recent outing at the end of 2022?
Things have been great. I’ve moved to Hull from Pocklington to enable myself to train more frequently and pretty much full-time.
You closed out 2022 with a huge first-round knockout on Caged Steel. How satisfied are you to return to the win column after falling short on Cage Steel’s previous show?
Yes, a first-round KO is a result I have relished since I started competing.
Although I imagine a first-round knockout is what you’d have taken all day, is there a slight annoyance in not going the distance and having the opportunity to showcase all your improvements?
No, I’m in this for the long hall, and there will be plenty of wars that go the distance, I’m sure.
You will clash with James Slavin on Saturday night at Almighty FC 29 in Barnsley. What are your thoughts on this matchup and James as a fellow competitor?
James looks to be quite an all-rounder, but I can’t see him keeping up with me in any which way the fight goes. He isn’t on my level. I’m sure of that.
Cain Morrow Talks Opponent’s Experience
James is fairly experienced now in his amateur career. Do you anticipate him bringing something to the octagon that you’ve never seen before?
No.
Talk to me about Carlson Gracie Hull and your teammates there. How important are the guys and girls there that help you day in and day out? The gym has rapidly established itself as one of the top places in the country.
We are a very close-knit team, and nothing is ever too much of an ask from each other. I have 100% trust in my coaches and teammates to help me climb to a level where I can beat the best the amateur MMA scene has to offer.
There’s plenty of tape of James out there, having made his debut in 2019. Have you been able to study previous fights and dive deep into his strengths and weaknesses?
His last fight may have been a first-round TKO, but I have observed flaws in his game. I don’t judge to closely on the others being they were over three years ago.
You seem to already have a busy schedule in terms of competition pencilled in this year. What’s the mindset behind that? Was the plan to always have a busy 2023? What goals have you set for yourself that you’d like to achieve by the end of 2024?
I haven’t planned as far ahead as the end of 2024, but I have the tools and time to be very active this year. By the end of 2023, if my record is 7-1… I’ll be a happy man.
Lastly, leave us with your official prediction for Cain Morrow v.s James Slavin at the Barnsley Metrodome on Saturday night.
