In anticipation of his upcoming bout at Golden Ticket Fight Promotions 25, scheduled to take place at the K.K Steelmill in Wolverhampton, we had the privilege of sitting down with Callum Deakin for an exclusive interview. Deakin, gearing up for his first fight of the year, shared insights into his past experiences, mindset, and strategies for the upcoming match against Lewis Loynes.
Reflecting on his performance in the previous year, Deakin acknowledged the busy nature of his journey, emphasizing the significance of refining his skills, particularly in his debut year with Intensity MMA: “Last year was a busy year for me, all about rounding my game out, especially with it being my first year with Intensity MMA!” Deakin expressed. He highlighted the valuable lesson learned that affirmed his ability to compete with some of the best talents in the UK.

Addressing the conclusion of the previous year marked by consecutive losses, Deakin maintained a composed outlook: “Yeah, to finish the year on back-to-back losses wasn’t ideal,” he admitted, “but it was against two really, really good fighters.” Despite the setbacks, he remained resilient, recognizing the close nature of his battles and utilizing the latter part of the year to address areas for improvement.
Looking ahead to his upcoming matchup against Lewis Loynes on March 2nd, Deakin exuded confidence in his prospects for success. Analyzing the matchup, he acknowledged Loynes’ physical attributes but expressed conviction in his ability to overcome them: “Yes, I do like my chances of winning this fight! On paper, he has the height and the reach, but I don’t think it will help him,” Deakin asserted.
Delving into Loynes’ fighting style, Deakin identified key aspects to capitalize on during their encounter: “So, watching his previous fights, he is a volume striker with not a lot of power but can certainly be overwhelming,” he observed. Deakin further noted weaknesses in Loynes’ takedown defense, indicating opportunities for him to exploit during the bout.
In closing, Deakin provided a glimpse of what spectators can anticipate from him on fight night: “The readers can expect the classic grappler vs striker matchup, but ultimately, they can expect me to put on a wrestling clinic!” he declared confidently.
