Yesterday, Almighty Fighting Championship made the Metrodome in Barnsley their home for the night, putting together an action-packed night of amateur and professional contests.
One of the show’s stars was Aspire’s Callum Mullen, who further announced himself as the next prospect from the regional scene to hit the big shows.
The opening round had those in attendance holding their breath in every exchange as both featherweights threw with bad intentions, and were landing. In the second round, Mullen had Pirogan dazed, eventually getting the fight to the mat.
As seen in the past, Mullen’s not the man you want in a dominant position in the grappling world, or you’ll be made to pay for your mistakes. The Bradford boy secured mount, raining down a barrage of punches, eventually forcing Pirogan to give up his back. From there, it was the begging of the end with Mullen latching on to a rear-naked-choke, making his opponent tap and becoming the new Almighty Fighting Championship Featherweight champion.
Callum Mullen Chokes Out Nicolae Pirogan
The victory over Nicolae Pirogan marked Mullen’s 5th consecutive win, moving to (5-0) since turning to the pro-ranks in 2018. Not to mention the 100% finish rate he has acquired. Mullen has displayed he can finish the fight with a number of tools from his arsenal. The sky is the limit for this young prospect.
What’s next for Callum Mullen remains to be seen. There are plenty of options at his disposal. But, one thing’s for certain, he won’t be around the regional circuit for much longer.
