Callum Turberfield is set to make his return to the Octagon this Saturday at Golden Ticket Fight Promotion 22.
Callum will attempt to bounce back after suffering his first loss in his most recent outing, which has “lit a fire” ahead of his return. GTFP will take place on June 3rd at the K.K Steelmill in Wolverhampton.
Ahead of a stacked fight night card, we had the chance to catch up with one man among the action in Callum Turberfield. Hear what he had to say below
Interview With Callum Turberfield
Callum, you are all set to make the walk for the first time in 2023. How are you feeling after a slight break between fights?
I am ready to get back into the cage and do what I enjoy, and that’s fighting. Yeah, I’ve had a break. It wasn’t planned, but unfortunately, circumstances prevented me from getting back in there earlier than I’d of liked.
You suffered your first amateur career loss at GTFP 20 last year. Talk us through the fight and what you felt went wrong.
The fight is what it is, I made mistakes, but there were positives to be taken also. This is what the amateur career is for, but I haven’t stopped grinding in the gym to be better than I was back then.
Fighters handle defeat in different ways. Some are down for days, and it really has a mental effect on them. Others use it as fuel and motivation to get back to the gym and continue grinding. What category are you under?
It definitely lit a fire. I know the level of fighter I am, but I didn’t get to show that on my last outing. Now I get the opportunity to show people again.
I saw last week you competed and got your hand raised in a grappling match. How was that, and how important do you feel it is for amateurs to get experience in disciplines outside the cage in between fights?
I think fighters need to be competing regularly. It’s not something I have done, but that’s what the amateur career is for to gain experience. I won’t be saying no to any competition put in front of me.
Callum Turberfield on Fight With Daniel Myers
Daniel Myers is the face standing across the cage from you, trying to stop you from getting back into the win column. How do you feel about the fight, and how do you match up against one another?
I think it’s a good fight, and anyone who knows me or watched me fight knows I just want to fight, I’m never in a boring fight, and I feel GTFP have seen this match-up, knowing it’s going to be a banger, definitely, not one to be missed.
Having had a decent amount of time in between fights. Where do you feel you’ve made the biggest improvements since the last time we’ve seen you?
My whole game has completely levelled up, but I can’t go telling you the biggest improvements that are to be seen on the 3rd of June.
Daniel is riding a three-fight win streak and has found himself in good form. Have you been able to watch those fights back? If so, are you impressed?
I haven’t watched the fights. I trust my coaches who believe in me to go into the cage and get the job done and bring back a win to mid-Wales.
There’s a fair bit of tape on Daniel having had five outings. Do you anticipate him bringing something to the cage that you’ve not seen before?
It is his first fight at welterweight. He could be a different fighter. At this part of my career, it is just focusing on my game, being in the gym getting better at all elements of the game.
Saturday night, how does Callum Tuberfield get back into the win column? How does the fight play out in your mind?
It’s simple doesn’t matter how but all that matters is getting my arm raised at the end of the night.
