Mexican boxing superstar Canelo ‘Canelito’ Alvarez, with his (61-2-2) record as a pro, showcased his legendary skills once again in a stellar triple title defence against Edgar Berlanga.
Boxer Canelo Alavrez Defeats Edgar Berlanga
Alvarez returned to the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night, making his eighth career Super Middleweight title defence. Canelito confidently put all three of his WBA, WBC, and WBO Super Middleweight titles on the line against a young and hungry Berlanga, only to hand him his first-ever defeat in a landslide victory.
During the initial two rounds, it appeared that Edgar had the advantage over Canelo. Berlanga skillfully found openings with his combinations, landing some stiff jabs that penetrated Alvarez’s guard.
However, as the fight progressed into the third round, things began to align for Alvarez. He discovered his own rhythm midway through the round, electrifying fans by knocking Berlanga to the canvas with a stunning left hand.
Edgar was able to make it back to his feet quickly, though visibly irritated as he punched his fists together with frustration.
“Canelo’s left hook that dropped Berlanga could be felt in San Juan!”
Fan posted on “X”
Canelo would only turn up the heat further in later rounds, landing a whopping 16 power shots in round eight, and another 20 in round ten. Berlanga – despite being countered and outscored, maintained his warrior spirit as he continued to throw and look for openings. However, he was unable to find further momentum.
Alvarez Has Nothing to Prove
Alvarez maintained his dominance, while Berlanga’s efforts were apparently hampered by some sort of hand injury. It wasn’t until the final 10 seconds of the fight that both warriors engaged in an all-out slugfest.
In the end, it was the triple champ King, Canelo Alvarez, who emerged victorious on the judges’ scorecards with a unanimous decision. (117-110, 118-109, 118-109)
With all three belts still firmly intact at his side during the post fight interview, the future hall of famer had this to say:
“Before they said [that I only] fight older fighters. Now what are they gonna say? – They always talk.. I am the best fighter in the world!”
Given his numerous accolades in the sport of boxing, it’s evident that Canelo Alvarez has nothing left to prove. And he remains a triple champion!
