Although most have advised against it, it looks like Canelo will take a potential warm up fight in his usual May date.
Canelo Alvarez is rumoured to be taking on Terrence Crawford in a potential pound for pound battle in September.
The Super Middleweight has been very consistent in wanting to have two fights each year for a long time now.
It doesn’t seem like Crawford will change that as team Canelo are looking to return on Cinco De Mayo.
Trainer Eddy Reynoso has recently revealed those names to TV Azteca.
“Well, there are several [possible opponents], there is William Scull, and there is the other one ranked by the WBO, [Christian] Mbilli, I think he lives in Canada.”
William Scull is ranked as the IBF World Champion.
This would be a very tough tune up fight for the Mexican to take on.
Christian Mbilli is ranked number 1 for the WBO and Ring Magazine, then ranked number 2 for the WBO title.
With 23 Ko’s it is understood that Mbilli would be the riskier fight to take before Crawford for Canelo.
Reynoso has been coy about the future of Canelo Alvarez and his potential opponents.
“We’ve also heard about [Terence] Crawford for September [as an opponent] But we really don’t have anything certain yet until about 15 days or so [from now].
Turki Alalshikh has been very open and confident in creating the super fight between Crawford and Canelo.
He would surely be one advising Canelo to stay out of the ring until a fight against Crawford to avoid any potential upset or injury.
The May Cinco De Mayo date have been synonymous with Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo Thinking Of The Future-
He will have to be very selective with his next fight, not only with the Crawford fight waiting in the wings but with his age and admittance of thinking about retirement.
“Yeah I’m getting closer [to the end] obviously, maybe 38 [years-old]. I think 38 [years-old] is the perfect time to start thinking.”
Canelo did also add, In The Ring Magazine Podcast, that he might be in the shape of his life.
“But I feel great, I feel better than ever.”
