Boxing in May has been further injected with intrigue after the Canelo Alvarez Vs William Scull undercard has been revealed.
This will be Canelo’s first appearance on a Riyadh season event and first Saudi Arabia fight night.
Canelo will headline the bout against IBF Middleweight champion William Scull. The Puerto Rican champ has a record of 23-0-0 with 9 KO’s. Most of Scull’s fights have come in Germany including his IBF championship win against Vladimir Shishkin. Scull has fought in America once against Sean Hemphill on a card headlined by Canelo and Jaime Munguia.
Canelo Alvarez Vs William Scull Undercard-
Jaime Munguia Revenge?-
Jaime Munguia, ex opponent and now stablemate of Canelo Alvarez, features on the undercard against Bruno Surace. The fight will be a rematch after Surace shockingly knocked out Munguia in December last year. The fight was amongst one of the biggest shocks of last year in the boxing world. Surace has now earned his right to be featured on such a card and will be sure to have a career high payday alongside. Munguia on the other hand will be looking to set the record straight and prove it was just an off night.
Martin Bakole Back-
Martin Bakole returns to Saudi Arabia after his short notice knockout loss to Joseph Parker. Bakole will take on Nigerian prospect Efe Ajagba who is hot off the back of a 5 fight win streak. Ajagba is 20-1-0 with his only loss coming to Puerto Rico’s Frank Sanchez who has gone on to fight Agit Kabayel and Junior Fa in Saudi Arabia. Ajagba is looking to make a name for himself by beating the self proclaimed boogeyman of the Heavyweight division. Whereas Bakole will look to place the short notice loss to Parker into the back of his mind and show the division that he’s still a monster when fit and ready.
Badou Jack Return-
Badou Jack finally is back in action after a heavy layoff not fighting since early 2023. The man who will be facing Jack across the ring is Ryan Rozicki who is off the back of a majority draw decision with Alberto Peralta in his home nation of Canada which is where Rozicki has exclusively fought since turning over into the professional boxing world. Jack on the other hand seems to have fought everywhere in his long illustrious career including once in Saudi Arabia and three times in his home residence of Dubai. Jack will look to bounce back off a lengthy layoff with a dominant performance.
Final Two Bouts-
The remainder of the undercard includes Light Heavyweight prospect Brayan Leon who is 6-0-0 and takes on Aaron Rocha Guerrero. Leon is trained by Eddy Reynoso, same trainer as both Canelo and Munguia.
The final fight sees Marco Verde make his debut. Verde is a 2023 PAN American games gold medalist and 2024 Olympics Silver medalist. The Mexican beat highly rated Englishman Lewis Richardson in the Semi Finals but got beat in the finals by Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev.
