Carlos Prates made a powerful statement at UFC Vegas 100, delivering a brutal knockout over veteran Neil Magny. In his first main event appearance, Prates ended the fight in spectacular fashion, knocking Magny out cold with a swift left hook just before the first round closed.
The fight began with Magny attempting takedowns to leverage his grappling advantage, but Prates stayed composed, resisting the attempts and even reversing one of Magny’s takedowns. Once the fight returned to its feet, Prates displayed patience, choosing his shots carefully. Magny pressed forward again, but Prates shrugged him off and unleashed a lightning-quick right hand that sent Magny to the mat, visibly shaken.

With Magny on unsteady legs, Prates seized the opportunity, pushing forward to end the fight. As Magny backed against the cage, he attempted to escape, but Prates measured his shots with precision. The Brazilian landed a crushing left hook that connected with the top of Magny’s head, sending him face-first to the canvas. The referee quickly stepped in, stopping the fight at 4:50 of the first round.
This knockout marks Prates’ fourth win in the UFC, all of which came in 2024, and each ending in a knockout:
“Feeling awesome,” Prates said post-fight. “This year was so far the best year of my life, of my career. It’s a lot of hard work. I can’t explain how happy I am right now.”
Prates’ victory over an experienced opponent like Magny highlights his growth and poise as a rising star in the welterweight division. The Brazilian hinted at his plans for the future, sharing his excitement for a potential matchup on Australian soil. “To be honest, I think the perfect fight would be in Australia because I have a daughter there,” Prates said. “Fight there in Australia against Jack Della Maddalena. All respect to this guy.”
He also mentioned another potential opponent, adding, “I don’t know if it’s too far away because we have the rankings and things like that, but against Jack Della Maddalena it would be amazing. But also I think it would be a really good fight against Geoff Neal.”
With his impressive knockout streak, Prates is quickly becoming a name to watch in the UFC. Fans and fighters alike are eager to see what’s next for this rising knockout artist.
