UFC 305 featured a welterweight bout between Carlos Prates and Ji “The Leech” Jingliang to open up the main card. Prates is an up and coming prospect at welterweight who has looked fantastic. He is a smooth striker with excellent finishing ability. The Leech is a veteran known to most fight fans as a game opponent fun to watch. After a while out The Leech has returned his last time out being a decision loss to Daniel Rodriguez. Many thought Ji should have got the decision but injury has kept the Leech out
Carlos Prates Score Massive KO at UFC 305
From the get go the difference in levels of striking was evident. Round 1 Prates was able to glid around. Prates jab and left straight were absolute money not being able to miss with it. towards the end of round 1 Prates was able to stun The Leech who stumbled back as the horn sounded.
With the start of round 2 Prates wasted no time at all knowing that he could hurt Jingliang. Again Prates, was having great success with the jab and left straight. Prates managed to hurt The Leech badly with a left straight causing him to retreat. The up and comer would not let up pursuing the Leech hurting him multiple times and dropping him. Ji managed to get up however Prates put him to sleep with a right hook left hook combo.
And with this win Prates put himself on the map. No-one has been able to beat The Leech in such a way. So, Prates is clearly ready to face top 15 level opposition. A fight against Michael “Venom” Page makes sense and is a fun fight. Another fight that makes sense is Geoff Neal. Whoever the UFC put in Prates everyone will be watching and lloking forward to seeing this prospect rise through the ranks.
