Cedric Doumbe has a lot of momentum behind him after his sensational knockout victory over Jordan Zebo. The Frenchman looks to be a tremendous talent in the future, and if he can keep producing performances like this past Saturday, people will go to see him compete. Doumbe is an elite prospect; it is interesting to hear why UFC didn’t sign him up. Speaking to the MMA Hour, Doumbe explains why he did not sign with the UFC.
The Electric Cedric Doumbe
Doumbe electrified the crowd in Paris with his fantastic nine-second knockout of Zebo. The Frenchman has a professional record of 5-0, with all of his victories being knockouts. Doumbe was an incredible kickboxer, which resulted in him having a lot of buzz around his transition to MMA. He was supposed to fight for the UFC in 2022, yet the French MMA Federation didn’t sanction the bout. He made the right choice signing with the PFL because Doumbe is making more money than he would in the UFC, and he is still getting his name out there.
Doumbe On UFC Not Signing Him
The MMA landscape has improved as there are many more top promotions for fighters. An athlete doesn’t have to be in the UFC to become well-known. Speaking to the MMA Hour, Doumbe says the UFC should regret not signing him.
“No, I didn’t even think about them. They did what they did. They f***** up. It is what it is. Now, I’m part of the PFL. For me, PFL is the future, and they are doing great. We’ve got Francis [Ngannou] now. He’s part of the team.”
“I mean, I’m part of the future. We are changing something. We are doing something great. So, I didn’t even think about them. They are doing their thing. I’m doing my thing. I think I’m the best. They lost something. PFL earned something. So, it is what it is… Of course [the UFC regrets it]. For sure. I’m pretty sure.”
