UFC legend Chael Sonnen announced that the highly anticipated title fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall will take place this year.
Whilst Aspinall has accused the champion of ducking him, fight fans have grown frustrated with how long the saga has drawn out.
However, with Chael Sonnen latest announcement, fight fans are now hoping that the fight will be announced soon.
Chael Sonnen announces biggest UFC fight in recent history
Arguably, fight fans are interested in the current situation of the heavyweight division. Young rising contender and interim champion Tom Aspinall is set to face the legend and greatest of all time, Jon Jones, in a highly anticipated fight. Whilst the fight is set to happen nothing has been confirmed by the UFC.
Despite this, in a recent podcast of Good Guy/Bad Guy, Chael Sonnen updated the MMA community. The American said, “I am confident enough to tell you that the fight is done, though.”
“That fight has been agreed, down to the date. I do have the confidence to tell you. International Fight Week would make perfect sense, I just always thought they were gonna go back to New York. As well as this, Chael Sonnen reiterated that Jon Jones had not ‘ducked’ Tom Aspinall despite fans claiming he had.

It has been a long time in the making that Tom Aspinall would finally have a chance to claim heavyweight gold. Having defended his interim belt by defeating Curtis Blaydes, Aspinall has had to wait patiently for Jones. The Manchester fighter hopes to become the third British fighter to win a UFC belt after former fighter Michael Bisping and Leon Edwards.
On the other hand, Jon Jones is coming off a dominant victory over Stipe Miocic. A fight that cemented the American as the heavyweight GOAT. However, fans want to see how the champion compares to the hard-hitting and slick movement of Tom Aspinall. Despite this, the heavyweight champion had been hoping to face Alex Pereira in his next fight. Whilst the UFC hasn’t announced the fight, Dana White has told fans Jones would be facing Aspinall.
