Reports from UPFRONT MMA on X claimed that Oliveira might need a replacement for the fight. The rumor, allegedly stemming from Coach Diego Lima via Fight Pass Brazil, suggested an issue had arisen, leading some to believe Oliveira might be out. The news quickly attracted attention from other fighters, including Dustin Poirier, who responded with “I’m in,” signaling his willingness to step in if necessary.
Charles Oliveira Reacts to Rumors of Withdrawing from UFC 309
Oliveira didn’t stay silent on the matter. Sharing the original UPFRONT MMA post, Oliveira responded with a simple “thinking” emoji, a reaction that seemed to express his own uncertainty or surprise at the rumor.
MMA insider Ariel Helwani also weighed in on the situation, addressing the rumors on his show. Helwani, known for offering timely updates to MMA fans, shared his perspective on X, saying, “Based on the conversations I’ve had, Charles Oliveira x Michael Chandler is not in jeopardy at this time. #UFC309.”
To further clarify, Helwani reported that he had spoken with Chandler’s camp, and they, too, were surprised by the rumors. According to Helwani, both sides appeared confused by the story, with no indication that the fight was at risk.
As of now, Oliveira and Chandler are both expected to step into the octagon as planned.
With the fight still on schedule, fans can expect Oliveira and Chandler to bring their best to UFC 309, making for an explosive co-main event under the lights of Las Vegas.
