In an exciting turn of events, Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan are set to showcase their skills at one of the most anticipated shows of the year, UFC 300.
UFC CEO Dana White, in his trademark style, dropped the bombshell news on a Sunday, revealing that Oliveira and Tsarukyan would face off in a high-stakes lightweight bout at UFC 300. The event is scheduled to take place at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. White added an extra layer of anticipation by stating that the winner of this clash, set for April 13, would earn the coveted No. 1 contender spot for champion Islam Makhachev.
The champion is expected to make a return to the octagon in the summer following a recovery period from an injury.
Charles Oliveira Set to Face Arman Tsarukyan
Oliveira’s journey to this pivotal matchup includes an originally planned bout against Makhachev at UFC 294 last October, a fight that never materialized due to a last-minute training cut. This unfortunate incident resulted in Alexander Volkanovski stepping in, only to succumb to Makhachev’s first-round knockout. Reflecting on his first encounter with Makhachev at UFC 280 for the vacant lightweight title, Oliveira is now fueled by the desire to overcome an elite contender and secure a rematch opportunity.
The former champion showcased his resilience in his most recent outing this past June, securing a first-round TKO win over Beneil Dariush. This impressive victory earned him another shot at Makhachev, setting the stage for his upcoming bout with Tsarukyan.
On the flip side, Tsarukyan has his own redemption story in the making. Seeking a rematch with Makhachev after a hard-fought decision loss five years ago, Tsarukyan has been on a tear, winning eight of his past nine fights. Notable finishes against Dariush, Joaquim Silva, and Joel Alvarez highlight his undeniable skill and determination to claim the lightweight throne.
As UFC 300 gears up for an unforgettable night, the official headliner is yet to be announced. However, the lineup already boasts exciting matchups, including Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic, Calvin Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling, and Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage.
The addition of Oliveira vs. Tsarukyan to this stellar card only adds to the anticipation and ensures fight fans are in for a treat come April 13.
