Charles Oliveira Will Be In Attendance at UFC 311 This Weekend Believing He Is Next in Line for a Title Shot
This weekend, at UFC 311 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, the Lightweight title will be on the line when champion Islam Makhachev defends against Arman Tsarukyan. The two first fought back in 2019 when Tsarukyan stepped in on short notice to make his UFC debut.
Arman Tsarukyan’s grappling prowess impressed despite losing by decision, giving Makhachev arguably the toughest fight of his career. It seemed a guarantee they would meet again, and after a series of impressive victories, Tsarukyan has earned his spot as the #1 ranked Lightweight.
The former Lightweight champion Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira will be watching from cage-side believing he is up next for a title shot.
Charles Oliveira’s Title Hopes
Although he had a rocky start to his UFC career, Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira found his form at Lightweight. After moving up from Featherweight Oliveira went on an 11-fight win streak, claiming the title and defending it twice.
His fight streak came to an end when he welcomed Islam Makhachev into the octagon. Makhachev, then riding a 10-fight win streak, breezed through Oliveira, submitting him in the second round.
With the 155lb title up for grabs this weekend Charles Oliveira feels he deserves the next title shot:
“They have similar styles, I think Islam is a little bit ahead. I also think it’s gonna be a very good fight, but for me, it doesn’t matter who wins. I’m the next.”
When asked when he would like to return, he said:
“It depends on how they will leave the fight,” adding. “For me, it doesn’t matter. I will fight in February, March if I could, but it will depend on how the fight goes.”
Oliveira continued, confirming he will be in attendance at the Intuit Dome this weekend for UFC 311:
“I will be there even if I have to sit close to the cage.”
Oliveira last fought at UFC 309 in November, beating Michael Chandler by unanimous decision. Given Chandler’s inactivity and recent string of losses, Oliveira’s adamancy on a title shot has been controversial.
Despite Oliveira’s confidence, it will be up to the winner of the UFC 311 main event of Islam Makhachev vs Arman Tsarukyan to decide who gets the shot title shot.
