Chelsea Chandler is seeking a second round knockout against Norma Dumont at UFC Vegas 77 this weekend. In her media day interviews, she told reporters that she believes she can deliver another standout performance this weekend.
Chelsea Chandler Targets KO At UFC Vegas 77
“I see some holes in her game and I feel like I’m going to exploit them on Saturday night,” said Chandler.
“With Norma, she kind of plays it boring sometimes. She plays it safe and I plan on going forward and putting it to her. I feel like I’m going to ragdoll her and make her tired, and I’m hoping for a KO in round two,” she continued.
Chandler has been away from the octagon for almost a year, but insists that she’s “not really worried about ring rust.”
“I feel like I’m going to come out there and be a completely different fighter than you guys saw me last. The time away really gave me a lot of time to hone my skills,” she said.
Chandler On Ronda Rousey Rumours
It seems as if Chandler has her eye on Ronda Rousey if she were to return to the UFC.
“I’ve been hearing that Ronda is coming back. If I go out there and put on the performance I plan on putting on, I’ll welcome her to the 45 [division]. I think it would be a great fight,” Chandler said.
She continued: “It has been a long time for her and things change and people get better. People are over her one trick pony armbar, but money talks and she would bring eyes to the sport again. I feel like her time in WWE is starting to go down so I’d like to see it.”
A Dream UFC Debut
Chandler put on an impressive display in her UFC debut last October, defeating Julia Stoliarenko by TKO in round one. She was taken down early, but managed to land some good ground and pound on top. Once she got back on her feet, her power and striking skills were too much for Stoliarenko.
Stoliarenko went for another takedown, but Chandler immediately ended up on top and in full mount. They returned to their feet, but it was clear that this was not where Stoliarenko wanted to keep the fight. After a poor takedown attempt from the Lithuanian, Chandler once again ended up on top and finished the fight with vicious ground and pound.
Chandler certainly looks to be an exciting addition to women’s MMA and she will undoubtedly be hunting down another stoppage win on Saturday.
