Chepe Mariscal Dominates En Route to Fifth Straight UFC Win
Chepe Mariscal improved his record to 5-0 in the UFC, with a dominant decision victory over Ricardo Ramos at UFC Vegas 103. His relentless pressure and exhausting volume, backed by powerful boxing and solid judo skills, proved too much for Ramos.
In the first round, Mariscal crashed in with big looping punches to counteract Ramos’ more technical and methodical style. Chepe landed multiple takedowns, including a clean judo throw and an exchange in which he held Ramos in back side control and rained down some hard punches. He was also effective with some dirty boxing against the fence. Ramos landed a glancing spinning back elbow that seemed to momentarily wobble Mariscal, but fell behind on volume and control.
Moving into round 2, Mariscal turned up the pressure as Ramos started to get caught waiting for a big shot that never manifested. He mixed up the strikes nicely, landing hard kicks to the legs and body while continuing to find success with his punches as well. Chepe’s grappling was also effective, hitting an early sweep to throw Ramos to the mat, and landing hard punches in the clinch against the cage.
The final round saw more of the same. Mariscal out-muscled Ramos against the cage, threw with much higher volume, and landed some clean punches throughout. Ramos did little of consequence and failed to show the urgency necessary to turn it around.
Mariscal Continues to Climb the Ladder
Chepe Mariscal has been on a tear, boasting an 8-0 record over the last 4 years. He is undefeated at 5-0 since moving to the UFC in mid-2023. In the aftermath of his lopsided unanimous victory over Ricardo Ramos, commentators Jon Anik and Dominic Cruz both agreed that he is ready to begin taking on ranked competition. It’s hard to argue, as Ramos had very little to offer the surging veteran. Hopefully we see him face tougher tests shortly. With his relentless pressure and high volume, combined with his well-rounded game centered on bruising punches and crisp judo, we could see plenty of high-octane instant classics from Chepe moving forward.
