UFC star Ciryl Gane rejected an offer from Khabib Nurmagomedov to train in Dagestan.
Nurmagomedov – former UFC lightweight champion – contacted Gane after he was out-grappled by Francis Ngannou.
“Ciryl Gane, come to Dagestan brother. Learn about wrestling and how to wrestle,” said Nurmagomedov.
‘Bon Gamin’ also showed limitations in his grappling skills when he fought Jon Jones for the heavyweight title.
Gane was submitted in less than two minutes by ‘Bones’ and was criticised heavily for his performance.
Ciryl Gane Rejects Khabib
Mirror Fighting reported that the former interim champion showed gratitude when responding to Nurmagomedov’s offer, but gave his reasons as to why he could not accept.
“This is really kind of him, but I have another job and that’s to be a father,” said Gane.
“To leave my family for six months for me impossible. If I go for two or three weeks my family misses me a lot,” he continued.
“To bring some people to the gym, that is impossible. Having those high level guys in judo, wrestling and boxing.”
Gane Seeks Redemption
The Frenchman will look to bounce back and return to the title picture against Serghei Spivac at UFC Paris in September.
In between his losses to Jones and Ngannou, he brutally finished Tai Tuivasa in front of home support after being knocked down.
Gane’s MMA rise was meteoric. He went to 10-0 and defeated the likes of Derrick Lewis, Alexander Volkov and Junior dos Santos.
‘Bon Gamin’ is an impressive athlete who possesses big power and technical striking skills. He will be working hard on areas that need improvement and cannot be written off yet.
“Just four years ago nobody knew me. Now it’s different,” said Gane.
“I was already in a rush when I started MMA. We did fight after fight, so that’s why my career has gone so fast also,” he added.
Spivac – Gane’s next opponent – is on a three-fight winning streak, but Gane will be confident of a return to form on home soil against the Moldovan.
