Claressa Shields has apologised to Olympic boxer Imane Khelif after mislabelling her as transgender.
This follows after the Algerian boxer Khelif was showered in controversy after a dominant win in the Olympic boxings round of 16.
Khelif battered Angela Carini in just 45 seconds breaking the nose of the Italian but the win caused outrage after fans found out that Khelif failed a gender test in the 2023 world championships.
Outrage was worldwide and became a gender politics hot topic around the world with world leaders and many celebrities having a comment to make.
Khelif has since proved her innocence with proof she was born a woman causing many to apologise for previous comments including pound for pound women’s GWOAT Claressa Shields.
Claressa Shields Back Tracks on Khelif Comments
In a recent TMZ interview Claressa Shields apologised for her comments.
“You can’t look at a woman and say ‘Oh, she doesn’t have a high level of testosterone,’ because it can come in all different forms,” Shields said. “Your muscles, your face, just inside of you and you look like a petite, beautiful woman, but you have a high level of testosterone…I feel bad now because I did an interview with Fox News earlier where I literally called these two women, transgenders, which that’s what I was told…
“I wish I would’ve did my research before, because now I couldn’t imagine being at the Olympics, winning these fights, and now I’m seeing all these articles and I’m trending because a two-time Olympic champ just called me a transgender. I just feel really bad about that, and I want to clear it up on my end that I have found out that these two women, were born women, and I don’t know what this testosterone stuff is about.”
MMA stars Sean Strickland and Israel Adesanya also criticised the Algerian.
Do you believe she should be able to compete in women’s boxing?
