CM Punk has openly reflected on his time in the UFC by stating that he has ‘zero regrets’ about trying his hand at mixed martial arts.
Appearing on The MMA Hour this week, Punk, also known as Phil Brooks, admitted his true feelings regarding his run in the organisation.
Punk said: “I asked my wife the other day, because I said something… I was just like, ‘What was I, 35 when I fought?’ And she was just like, ‘Oh, no, you were 36 or 37.
“I just went, ‘What the f*** was I thinking?’”
CM Punk on UFC Run
The 45-year-old fought twice in two years before leaving the UFC. He first lost to Mickey Gall by a rear naked choke in 2016, and Punk fell short again to Mike Jackson on points. However, the loss against Jackson would get overturned to a no-contest after Punk’s opponent failed a drug test for marijuana.
Although his MMA career did not go how he wanted, Punk will always be satisfied that he gave it a go.
He said: “I’m glad I did it. Zero regrets, (except) I shouldn’t have fought in Chicago, because of the worst two weeks of my life – easily the worst two weeks of my life. I couldn’t cut weight properly.
“I still made weight, I’m proud of myself for that. I’m an ambitious guy… I get it, it’s easy to ‘LOL’ and make fun of me. Some people will look at that and be like: ‘That’s embarrassing.’
“I f***ing made the weight, I made the walk, I am 100 percent proud of myself. And I would do it again, because that was me at my absolute worst, and I did it. You want to call me a loser, that’s cool, but I was stoked I got that opportunity, and I was stoked I did it.”
Punk After His Run In The UFC
Punk came out of his professional wrestling retirement after his stint in the UFC, first appearing in All Elite Wrestling in 2021, then rejoining the WWE in 2023.
After turning up to WWE Raw in a sling due to a torn tricep, this indicated to many fans that he would not be ready for WrestleMania 40, this weekend. Instead, Punk will be a guest commentator at the event which is set to take place in Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia.
