CM Punk, known offstage as Phillip Brooks, has long been a prominent figure in the world of professional wrestling, captivating audiences for over 15 years. Surprisingly, he managed to maintain his stature even during a seven-year hiatus from the ring, during which he ventured into the realm of combat sports with two notable appearances in the UFC.
His debut at UFC 203 pitted him against welterweight standout Mickey Gall, culminating in a submission loss early in the first round. Despite the setback, Punk persisted and returned nearly two years later to face Mike Jackson at UFC 225. While he showed improvement, Punk ultimately faced defeat via unanimous decision, though the result was later nullified due to Jackson’s positive marijuana test.

With his MMA career seemingly concluded, CM Punk recently hinted at the possibility of a UFC comeback during an interview with Aaron Bronsteter, suggesting that opportunities are always worth considering. Reflecting on his past endeavors, Punk emphasized his readiness to seize chances, regardless of others’ perceptions, stating his philosophy:
“You never say never. Who thought I would’ve ever fought in the UFC? I was afforded an opportunity by Lorenzo [Fertitta] and Dana [White], and I would be kicking myself to this day if I said no. I’m not a guy who lives with regret. I will seize opportunities whether people believe I deserve the opportunities or not. I work hard for my dreams, and I will always chase them. Also, I think a lot of clouds parted, and time heals all wounds, so when it came back to wrestling, it was the right time.”

Punk’s narrative took a different turn in the summer of 2021, marking his return to professional wrestling with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). However, his tenure with AEW was marred by controversy stemming from a genuine rivalry with Nick and Matt Jackson, collectively known as The Young Bucks, which escalated beyond the confines of the ring. Following a suspension and brief return, Punk found himself released by AEW president Tony Khan in September 2023.
Despite the setback, Punk’s journey in wrestling continued, as he made a surprise return to WWE at the Survivor Series just two months later. However, his in-ring appearances have been limited, further complicated by a bicep injury sustained during the 2024 Royal Rumble in January. Currently sidelined, Punk faces a recovery period estimated at six to eight months.
