The former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt continues his feud with the current UFC Bantamweight number one contender Sean O’Malley by providing one last call out before ‘Sugar’ Sean’s championship fight against UFC Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
It has been no secret that Garbrandt and Sean O’Malley don’t exactly see eye to eye. There has been many words thrown at each other as both fighters have had their own respective rise and falls in the bantamweight rankings. The former champio Garbrandt has expressed his desire to bring their mutual disagreements to the octagon many times however, due to his recent form, Garbrandt has never really had the leverage to force the fight with the rising star O’Malley.
Despite his position however, Garbrandt remains undeterred from calling out the number one contender. Most recently Garbrandt took to Twitter to try and attract O’Malley’s attention. The Tweet seen below.
“He has a weird infatuation with me. You can get it once Aljo mops the canvas with you @SugeaSeanMMA”
O’Malley, who is set to face Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292, could possibly be the next UFC bantamweight Champion after August 19th and so this could provide Cody Garbrandt a path back to UFC gold.
Sean O’Malley Rules Out Cody Garbrandt Fight
Although Garbrandt continues to call out O’Malley, the chances of the fight happening look slim.
Last year on his own show, TimberSugarShow, Sean O’Malley ruled out the chance of the fight happening after Garbrandt called O’Malley out after his vicious knockout loss to Kai Kara-France at UFC 269.
“Dude, Cody is not getting that fight,” ‘Suga’ said. “When he said it, you could see it in his voice, it’s like (mumbles). But that fight’s not happening.”
“It doesn’t make sense for him to say that, you wonder if that’s CTE. He’s been knocked out five times in the last two years. … He was [the UFC champion]. That fight’s not happening, at least not next. He needs to—it just doesn’t make sense. It literally just doesn’t make sense. If you look at his record. No, that’s not next.”

Cody Garbrandt remains unranked as of UFC 292, even after his decision victory against Trevin Jones at UFC 285. The chances of this most recent call out actually creating a fight between the two bantamweights are very low. Sean O’Malley heads into UFC 292 to try and gain UFC gold. Garbrandt can only watch on as he had to pull out of his scheduled bout against Mario Bautista at the same event. Will Cody Garbrandt ever get his chance against Sean O’Malley?
