In the world of combat sports, crossover talk is always a hot topic, and for WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes, one name stands out as an exciting potential addition to the wrestling ring—Conor McGregor. Known for his electrifying persona and showmanship, McGregor has long been viewed as someone who could bring his larger-than-life presence into WWE’s realm. And according to Rhodes, it could be the perfect move for McGregor.
During a recent appearance on The Schmo podcast, Rhodes was asked about the growing relationship between WWE and UFC under their TKO partnership, and he was quick to bring up McGregor.
“I’ll say that one person I’d love to see just dip his toes in the WWE would be Conor McGregor,” Rhodes said:
“The competition environment at WWE is different from what people might expect… Someone like him, who’s competed at the highest level in so many incredible fights, maybe it’s time to explore the more entertainment side of sports. I think he’d be great at it.”
Cody Rhodes Eyes Cross Promotion With Conor McGregor History
McGregor has already made waves in the WWE community, mainly through social media exchanges. He’s had public feuds with various WWE personalities over the years, notably with Paul Heyman. In 2023, McGregor and Heyman engaged in a heated online exchange, with both men firing shots at each other in true wrestling fashion.
In fact, McGregor once went as far as challenging WWE superstar Roman Reigns, even suggesting they meet in the ring at WWE SummerSlam. Although that match didn’t happen, the Irishman’s remarks kept fans buzzing about a potential WWE crossover. Rhodes believes McGregor’s natural charisma and combat background would resonate with WWE’s audience, possibly giving rise to some unforgettable moments.
Cross-Promotions Between WWE and UFC Spark Interest
The shared ownership of WWE and UFC under TKO has already sparked unique promotional opportunities between the two brands. Earlier this year, UFC’s Michael Chandler made headlines by calling out McGregor during an episode of WWE RAW, merging UFC’s intense energy with WWE’s theatrical approach. This collaboration has opened doors for stars from each organization to potentially cross paths and expand their reach.
The mutual interest between WWE and UFC fighters is gaining momentum, and with McGregor’s notorious charisma and physicality, it seems like only a matter of time before he might consider stepping into the squared circle.
Rhodes and UFC Champion Tom Aspinall’s WWE Moment
Rhodes recently crossed paths with the MMA world himself when he introduced interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall at a WWE live event. Rhodes shared the stage with the champ, giving fans a taste of what a full-fledged UFC-WWE crossover could look like. Events like these continue to fuel speculation about more appearances and collaborations between WWE and UFC athletes.
McGregor’s involvement in WWE, should it happen, would certainly bring in new fans from the MMA community, creating a buzz that could benefit both WWE and UFC. And while it remains to be seen if McGregor will officially join WWE, the stage is undoubtedly set for more crossover possibilities under the TKO banner.
