Colby Covington and Ian Garry have been going back and forth on social media.
After pulling out of UFC 296 due to an illness, Garry fought a few months later. He faced off at UFC 298 against Geof Neal, where he got the unanimous decision nod. Following a lackluster performance, considered by many, Garry called out number four ranked Colby “Chaos” Covington. Not shying away, after Covington at the UFC 296 pre-fight press conference, called out Ian Garry for ducking him.
Since then, Colby Covington has posted a video on his Twitter. He has 3 stipulations for Ian Garry that he would have to do for Chaos to accept a matchup against him.
To which Ian Garry responded with a video of his own.
As you can guess it, Covington replied to Garry’s stipulations.
Colby Covington Confirms No Contract With Ian Garry
In a recent podcast, Colby Covington commented on the situation. He appeared on the SOSCAST with Adam Sosnick, confirming that Chaos is looking up the rankings, not downwards. Covington is ranked at four and has 3 losses in his last 5 fights. While Ian Garry is ranked at seven. With Colby coming off a loss to the champion, Leon Edwards, on paper, this fight would make a lot of sense.
“It’s always big cities and bright lights every time I fight. I’m always on the top of the marquee so you know when I fight next, it’ll be a big pay-per-view blockbuster. The biggest show that the UFC does is International Fight Week. I’m hoping that I’ll fight International Fight Week, doesn’t matter who I fight…”
“I told him you know if he wants to do these three stipulations we can fight,” Covington added. “But if he doesn’t you know I got to move up in the rankings, I’m not trying to go behind me.”
What Can Be Next for Colby Covington
Safe to say Ian Garry will not comply with Chaos’ demands. If Covington is looking up the rankings, he is looking at a death row. Kamaru Usman is ranked at one and Colby has two losses over him. Belal Muhammad is at two and is most likely getting the next title shot being on a nine-fight no-loss streak. Due to the no-contest against Leon Edwards, this isn’t completely a winning streak. Finally, separating Belal and Colby is the Kazakhstani phenom, Shavkat Rakhmonov. “Nomad” has 18 wins and 18 finishes. Not quite sure Colby will be willing to step into the cage.
It is up to the UFC now on who each of these men can be matchup next. With a pay-per-view event in the UK now confirmed by Dana White, a big star like Ian Garry would be expected to be on the card. Whether it will be Colby Covington facing against him, only time will tell.
