Colby Covington is never shy in expressing his opinions on his fellow fighters. Over the years, he has said many things about UFC athletes. His most recent target is the new middleweight champion, Sean Strickland, known for saying controversial things. Speaking to my MMA news, Covington had harsh words about the middleweight champ.
The Career Of Colby Covington
Covington is an incredible competitor who has produced many great performances throughout his career in the sport. He is coming off a win against Jorge Masvidal in a contest that he dominated from start to finish. Covington will take on Leon Edwards at UFC 296 in December. He will look to dethrone the British champion and hold an undisputed title for the first time. Covington is an exceptional wrestler and never gives his opponent a break inside an octagon. The American fighter will utilise his skills to get the belt.
Covington on Strickland
As previously stated, Strickland is quite the character and is currently the middleweight champion in the UFC. Speaking to James Lynch, Covington expresses his thoughts on Strickland.
“He’s outspoken in the most obnoxious manner and just belligerent and so low IQ,” Covington told My MMA News. “That guy has no wits. He says some of the most egregious, nasty stuff. I can’t identify with anything of that guy. He says some really stupid things about women, and I think it’s equality out there, and everybody shouldn’t be entitled to someone.
“It’s not if you’re a woman or the colour of your skin; it’s who’s the most qualified for a job. Dude, he’s an idiot and an even weaker fighter. He got lucky (cashed out already.”
Will They Ever Meet
If Covington wins the title in December, it is plausible that he can go up and challenge for the middleweight title in the future. Which means we could see a showdown between the two down the line.
“That’s the beauty of the UFC – it’s such a pure sport,” Covington said when asked about Strickland’s win over Adesanya. “Anybody can win on any given night. If you don’t come ready to fight that night and you have an off night, that’s what can happen. Adesanya overlooked him, and he thought he would breeze through this guy and probably didn’t train very hard for him. I think he’s getting a little comfortable up there. He made some big paychecks, and he’s not as hungry as he used to be.
“It just opens the door for all the middleweights because that’s (Strickland) the easiest guy to beat. Honestly, it opens up the door for me. I might go up there and beat his ass. That guy is a f*cking punk. He got his ass knocked out by (Kamaru) Usman.”
