Colby Covington set his eyes on Islam Makhachev.
Chaos is gearing up for his return to the octagon. As the aforementioned is set to headline the final pay per view of the year. Covington will face none other then British – Jamaican champion, Leon Edwards. Recently, Colby has expressed his desire to welcome Islam Makhachev to the Welterweight division. As Makhachev has expressed himself, he would like to face the winner of the main event of UFC 296. The former interim champion explains this coveted matchup as a super fight.
Ranked at number three in the division, Colby Covington is set to return after fighting back in March of 2022. Albeit, before he looks ahead, he has not slouch opponent. At UFC 296, Leon Edwards is set to defend his welterweight belt for the second time. After a comeback win by a head kick knockout of then champion Kamaru Usman and then defending it back on home soil in London. This matchup has a potential epic clash down. Leon Edwards became the second champion coming out the UK.
Meanwhile, Islam has renowned his dominance by becoming the pound for pound number one. In his most recent headline at UFC 294. he showcased an impressive first round stoppage with his own head kick knockout of Alexander Volkanovski.
Colby Covington Dream Matchup Versus Islam Makhachev
For one thing, Colby Covington is preparing his long awaited return into the octagon, he is eyeing on a potential matchup. He welcomes the idea of a super fight versus the lightweight champion and number one pound for pound fighter, Islam Makhachev. Chaos has caught the attention of the lightweight king who is contemplating a move up to the welterweight division. Colby eagerly awaits for Makhachev as he describes it a dream matchup.
“Number one for sure, is Islam Makhachev,” Colby Covington told UFC.com. “That’s the money fight. That needs to be settled. USA vs. Russia. It’s the Rocky IV theme line. Rocky vs. Drago. Everybody is talking like he’s pound-for-pound this, he’s pound-for-pound that. Against me, he’ll see a real fighter.”
“He needs to stop being a weight bully, cutting all that weight to get the size advantage over people, and he needs to come see America’s champ,” Colby Covington explained. “He needs to come see Donald Trump’s favorite fighter. I’ll see you soon, Islam.”
In Colby’s last performance, he faced, not to mention, long time friend, now foe, Jorge Masvidal. Covington got the decisive unanimous decision versus his former training partner. That long waited clash ended the talks back in March of 2022 at UFC 272. At the present time, Chaos is looking forward to his next challenges.
