The combat sports community have offered their support to Henry Cejudo after the death of his sister. Gloria Cejudo passed away on Friday, and personalities from MMA and boxing alike sent their condolences to the former two-weight UFC champion.
Henry Cejudo Consoled After Losing Sister
Cejudo’s sister Gloria eventually lost her battle with cancer last week. Accordingly, the MMA world stepped up to show their support for ‘Triple C’. UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski has called out Cejudo multiple times, but he was one of the first to send well wishes. On social media he wrote: “Sorry to hear brother. condolences to you and the family.”
Former bantamweight champion and Cejudo’s most recent opponent Aljamain Sterling reacted to the tragic news by posting heart and praying emojis. Tracy Cortez, Marvin Vettori and Maycee Barber were among the other UFC fighters to offer their support. UFC commentator Jon Anik wrote: “My deepest condolences Henry,” while UFC legend Michael Bisping also had kind words to share. “I really am so sorry brother. She looks like she was a beautiful soul. My sincere condolences to all of your family,” said Bisping.
Boxing superstar turned MMA fighter Claressa Shields and ONE founder Chatri Sityodtong were among others from the combat sports world to send messages to Cejudo.
Henry Cejudo’s Heartfelt Message
The combat sports world were responding to Cejudo’s post on Instagram following his sister’s death. “My older sister has been battling cancer for the last two years. I’ve never seen someone fight for their life like her,” wrote Cejudo alongside a picture of Gloria. “She played so many roles in my life including being my second mom. The most selfless person I have ever met. Thank you for teaching me about unconditional love. No more pain and suffering, rejoice with our heavenly father. Have those peaches in heaven you always wanted.”
