Cage Warriors make their triumphant return after a successful night of action that went down in London on Friday 18th of March.
The promotion is back in action this upcoming weekend as Manchester hosts a double-header of Cage Warriors 134 and Cage Warriors 136.
We had the opportunity to catch up with one man who will be among this weekend’s chaos in Connor Wilson. The Next Generation MMA athlete will feature on the Friday night and squares off against Ander Sanchez in what shapes up to be an exciting contest.
Interview With Connor Wilson
Saturday night, you make your second appearance under the Cage Warriors banner as a professional. What measures have you taken to ensure it doesn’t go like your last? Any extra sessions, any additional factors you’ve added within the camp?
My last fight on cage warriors was one-way traffic. I was dominating the fight until I didn’t stick to the game plan and shot straight into a choke. Nothing has been changed in camp. I always train hard and give 100%. I just got to be that bit smarter in there.
Touching on the fight with Ciaran briefly. Have you watched that one back and identified what went wrong in there, or do you put it down to one of those nights at the office?
It wasn’t a bad night at the office. I just wasn’t smart in there. The fight was only going one way until I tried to take Ciaran down. He did well to get the finish, but we will run it back at some point, and I can rewrite that script.
A few months later, you returned with a convincing win over Jack Young at Almighty Fighting Championship. How important was it for you to get back in there quickly and get another win added to your record?
It was as important as any other fight, same as this one I am going in to win every fight I have.
Have you faced any challenges in this camp due to two opponents pulling out? Has that affected the camp at all, switching specifics up for specific opponents, or have you just focussed on you?
No, the opponent really doesn’t matter; I just have to go in there and worry about doing what I do. All three opponents I’ve been matched with have been completely different fair play to cage warriors for still getting me matched.
With the opponent switches, you now meet Ander Sanchez. He is a Spanish native who makes his pro debut but has a clean amateur record. Have you had a chance to even study his game? If so, what are your thoughts?
I have watched him a bit. He is good. He was 10-1 as an amateur aggressive and is used to winning. It’ll be a good fight, but I think he will walk into shots all night.
Sanchez has been out since 2018, whereas you have been active. How much of a factor do you feel this will play in the bout?
No, I don’t think it will matter. I don’t think activity matters as much as people think. Skill and will to win is what wins you fights. Men would all be world champions if it was down to activity journey.
Lastly, tell us why people should buy a ticket and watch Connor Wilson in action. What can we expect?
You should expect fireworks. I have so many tools that I can use in there. I have skill speed power, and I put up a relentless pace. Tune in, and you will see world-class and will want to watch my next fight.
