Conor Benn has commented on the ‘personal’ hate behind the scenes for his rivalry with Chris Eubank Jr.
These two born rivals are set to clash on Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to settle their grudge.
Benn spoke to Sky Sports about ‘personal’ reasons away from the ring deepens his hate of Eubank.
He said: “I hate what he stands for. I hate who he is as a man, what he’s chasing.
“Just him as a man personally for reasons that aren’t public, personal reasons, between me and Chris that he’s fully aware of as to why I really dislike him.”
These comments follow a tense build-up which has seen some aggressive language and actions by both fighters.
But especially Eubank Jr who has attempted to get under the skin of his younger opponent.
The 35-year-old most famously slapped an egg across the face of the ‘Destroyer’ after a lively launch press conference.
This action led to a fine of £100,000 by the British Boxing Board for the boxer’s actions.
Although, the 28-year-old is not letting these stunts get in the way of his focus on Saturday night.
“I think there’s a big personality clash, the controversy, the adversity, it sells,” Benn explained.
“It doesn’t change the outcome of April 26 and what I’m going to do to him.”
World title ambitions
A career welterweight, he has remained optimistic about his options post Eubank.
The WBC were the first to ‘clear’ Conor Benn following his two positive drugs tests, blaming a ‘highly consumption’ of eggs.
After he was allowed to fight by UK Anti-Doping, as they were ‘not comfortably satisfied’ UKAD had proved the claim, he was reinstated into the WBC rankings at #3.
But he had to take this fight before moving to current holder Mario Barrios.
He said: “It was a fight that was never going away.
“Obviously I had the WBC world title ready there for me to take against Barrios, which is still the plan after I knock Eubank out.”
The Londoner only took the fight for its ‘commercial’ sense and ‘public demand’.
Refuse to lose
It is clear the ‘personal’ hate between the two runs deep but it has been a motivating factor for Benn.
He said: “I’ve not lost. I’m undefeated. He will not be my first loss. That man I refuse to lose to.
“The thought of losing to him, the fear of losing to him is what gets me out of bed at five in the morning.”
