Two of MMA’s best boxers, Petr Yan and Conor McGregor, had an intense faceoff. But unlike one might believe, this didn’t happen on Twitter or in the crowd of a UFC event. Instead, the said took place at the IBA Night of Champions event at Agenda Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Arguably the most famous MMA fighter of all time, Conor McGregor, hasn’t been seen in action for a while now. The Irishman was last seen inside the octagon against Dustin Poirier in a losing effort. But within this time, the fighter has been spotted at many popular fight events. The latest being the IBA Night of Champions. But this time, it looks like ‘Notorious’ wanted to be more than a spectator.
Conor McGregor Squared Off With Fellow MMA Fighter Petr Yan
During the recently concluded IBA Night of Champions, IBA president Umar Kremlev was seen with two former UFC champions, Conor McGregor and Petr Yan. Following a quick handshake, the two MMA fighters went on a faceoff that looked nothing short of a pre-fight weigh-in at a UFC event. All of this happened as the Dubai crowd went crazy over the two strikers standing face to face.
Known for their technical striking, both McGregor and Petr Yan have long been compared for their fighting style. The debate usually surrounds the crown for the best boxer in MMA. Previously, the two men have had some spats on Twitter on this issue. And on one occasion, there was a callout for a possible clash inside the boxing ring as well. And the two men seemed to have agreed to go toe-to-toe. But for anybody wondering if this is an indication of a boxing match, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
This staredown was instantly followed by the two men having fun inside the ring. Thus, indicating the informal nature of this faceoff. It is interesting to note that despite their impressive resumes, both men are currently going through a rough phase of their careers. Losing both the rematch and rubber match of the trilogy against Dustin Poirier, McGregor is yet to make a comeback. On the other hand, Yan is currently on a three-fight losing streak, with his last win coming over two years ago.
