Conor McGregor points the finger at Khabib Nurmagomedov after 46 injured and 20 killed in Dagestan terror attack
On Sunday 23rd of June, a devastating terror attack took place in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan. The 5 gunmen attacked police posts, churches and synagogues resulting in the death of 20 people and leaving nearly 50 people hospitalised.
Makhachkala, Dagestan, home of former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is where the main shoot-out took place.
Since the attack one of the shooter’s Gadzhimurad Kagirov has been identified.
Gadzhimurad Kagirov’s and Khabib’s History
Kagirov has since been identified as having a connection with Khabib having formerly trained at his gym. Previously named Eagle MMA Fight Club the gym was renamed after the passing of Khabibs father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
The fight between Mcgregor and Khabib catapulted Khabib to international stardom. Kagirov, whos is a master of sport (a title honoured to successful athletes in Russia) turned to MMA inspired by Khabib. He held a 2-0 record in Mixed Martial Arts training out of Eagle MMA Fight Club.
Now named Club Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov School, the gym was opened to allow residents of Dagestan to follow in the footsteps of Khabib. Since the shooting Russian military and police have raided the former champion’s gym in search of evidence. But Khabib was quick to condemn the attacks:
“This is inhumane….People were being killed five minutes away from my home. How can this be normal? My children live there, my mother lives there, and my family lives there. They’re five minutes away from that place. I was getting calls until morning. They were saying people are being killed and that there are some anti-terrorist operations going on.”
Former foe of Khabib, Conor McGregor took to X to imply some blame on his previous opponent.
Conor McGregor Jabs Khabib Nurmagomedov After Devastating Terrorist Attack
In October 2018, Khabib Nurmagomedov faced off against Conor McGregor at UFC 299—a fight which carried arguably more bad blood than ever seen before.
The two rivals openly despised each other with a tumultuous build-up before the fight. Most memorable when Conor McGregor rushed a bus in which Khabib was onboard.
The Irishman McGregor grabbed a nearby dolly and launched it at the bus breaking the glass and injuring passengers on board. For all the bad words exchanged between the two this certainly lit the rivalry alight, with teammates and fellow UFC fighter injured as a result of the attack.
In a recent X post, Conor McGregor reposted the video of the Russian military raiding the gym with the captions “#ConorWasRight”. During the height of his feud with Khabib Conor has often questioned the legality of the Nurmagomedov team.
Claiming that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager Ali Abdelaziz along with Khabib’s teammates were “terrorists” and “rats”.
He then made a post captioned “They call me mystic mac…”.
The quote refers to his iconic quote in which he stated “They call me mystic mac, because I predict these things”. This quote came after he correctly predicted a first round knockout of Dustin Poirier in 2014.
Whether Khabib or Conor are telling the truth is at this moment speculation.
