While watching UFC San Antonio, UFC star Conor McGregor had an interesting rules change suggestion.
Having achieved heights in the cage that many dreamed of and reaped the rewards of his hard work over the years, McGregor wants to see one thing change before he returns to the UFC Octagon.
UFC San Antonio’s main event consisted of a 25-minute bantamweight bout between Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Vera. Towards the end of the fight, both men wore it, with sweat and blood dripping from the pair. However, when Vera had spit, McGregor was disgusted in the latter rounds, and Sandhagen cleared his nose all over the canvas.
“One gollier of a spit and two snot rockets each nostril just now from both fighters at the end of the 4th,” McGregor wrote in a series of since-deleted tweets. “It’s a ridiculous habit some people have. It should be abolished via threat of point deduction.”
Conor McGregor Wants to See Rule Change Implemented in MMA
“Goiller” is Irish slang, meaning when you gather all the phlegm from your nose into your throat and push it back up and spit it out. A “snot rocket” refers to someone blowing air out of their nostrils to clear all the gunk from their nose.
It’s something we see inside the cage more often than not. Fighters are competing at a high pace and do need to breathe effectively to continue fighting to the best of their ability, but it’s something McGregor wants to see penalized.
Sandhagen went on to win the UFC San Antonio main event comfortably. That being said, one of the judges scored the fight in favor of Vera, which continues to beg the question of why judging in mixed martial arts has been so inconsistent.
McGregor has just finished his filming duties coaching The Ultimate Fighter for a second stint, with Michael Chandler coaching the opposite team. The pair are set to clash in a lightweight matchup towards the back end of 2023, but the UFC hasn’t given any hint on an official date.
