Conor McGregor has called for the UFC and Dana White to sign the UK newest world champion. The biggest star in the sport has taken to Twitter to give his opinions on a new singing he believes will make a difference in the UFC.
PFL 10 just went down this weekend. A momentous event for both the company and those that competed on it. One of the biggest stars to emerge from the Championship final was Brendan Loughnane. Winning Featherweight gold via fourth-round TKO taking out Bubba Jenkins in the process. Conor McGregor was clearly impressed by the win.
What Conor McGregor Said
Amongst a whole host of other tweets directed to many across many around the MMA world over the last few days. Conor took time out to lay praise on Brendan for being an “exciting fighter.”
With a clear ally in the form of ‘The Notorious’ Loughnane is very clearly doing something right.
Dana White’s Contender Series
Brendan isn’t all that unfamiliar with UFC president Dana White. Competing for a chance at a contract back in 2019. The Mancunian man made an appearance on the UFC’s feeder program, Dana White’s Contender Series.
In a winning effort, in which he won via decision, Dana opted not to sign the Brit. Coming out on record saying a takedown attempt with ten seconds on the clock cost Brendan a chance in the UFC.
With many viewing UFC as the pinnacle of the sport, missing out on a contract would seem a major blow. However, this wasn’t the case for Brendan Loughnane. Not one to sit and feel sorry for himself he got straight back to work and soon signed with the Professional Fight League.
The UFC’s Loss is The PFL’s Gain
Competing at Featherweight he made his first appearance in 2019. Due to his late entry, he was unable to accrue enough points to advance, however, he did go 2-0 in the year.
He’d then find himself competing in the championship tournament at the beginning of the 2021 season. Making his way out of the bracket with two wins he found himself in a semi-final. This was where his journey ended with a loss to eventual champion Movlid Khaybulaev.
Entering 2022, Brendan has more motivation than any to achieve greatness and he’d do just that. Competing through two tough tests in his first two bouts, Brendan qualified for the semi-finals, taking place in the UK.
On home soil, Loughnane would shine, and defeat his hardest test to date in the shape of Chris Wade. Now into the final, Loughnane once again rose to the occasion. Turning out an all-time great performance. The Brit would TKO Bubba Jenkins in the final to win gold.
Winning a world championship, as well as a cool One Million Dollars. I think we can say Brendan isn’t too worried about not being signed by the UFC. A pay cheque he’d need to compete for years to attain in the UFC.
Do you agree with Conor McGregor and should the UFC sign Brendan Loughnane?
