Conor McGregor is making waves again, and this time it’s not just about fighting in the octagon. The Irish superstar has taken aim at YouTuber KSI after hearing his latest song, and it looks like a boxing match could be on the horizon.
McGregor, who is 36, hasn’t stepped into the ring since a tough loss to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. That fight ended dramatically when McGregor suffered a broken leg, leaving fans eager for his return. Since that fateful night, many UFC fighters have mentioned his name, but no fights have come to fruition.
Originally, McGregor was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but he had to pull out due to a toe injury he sustained while training. Now, the former double champion finds himself at a crossroads in his career. There are lucrative opportunities for him in exhibition boxing matches. However, it remains unclear whether he still has the drive to compete for UFC glory.
Back in August 2017, McGregor transitioned from the UFC octagon to the boxing ring, where he faced the legendary Floyd Mayweather. Unfortunately, that bout ended in a loss for McGregor, but he gained valuable experience and notoriety from the event.
Recently, Misfits Boxing shared a video on their YouTube channel featuring McGregor seemingly issuing a challenge to KSI.
“Let’s go, mate,” McGregor declared in the interview.
UFC Star Conor McGregor Calls Out KSI for Boxing Match
When asked about the possibility of boxing KSI, he didn’t hold back.
“I’ll fight him for that bullst song he released alone! I’ll fight him for that f***g song alone. We’re back, baby!” McGregor exclaimed.
The song he referenced, titled “Thick of It,” features rapper Trippie Redd. Since its release, the track has faced criticism online, with numerous fans mocking KSI’s musical efforts.
Outside of his music career, KSI has been quite active in the boxing world. He has competed in six notable bouts, winning four of them. His victories include notable names like Logan Paul, Swarmz, Luis Alcaraz Pineda, and FaZe Temperrr. However, he faced setbacks as well. His fifth fight ended as a no-contest after he elbowed opponent Joe Fournier. In his most recent match, he lost to Tommy Fury by unanimous decision in October 2023.
This isn’t the first time McGregor has called out KSI. Back in August 2023, both men were in attendance at Anthony Joshua’s fight against Robert Helenius. During the event, McGregor shouted, “I know your man KSI is in the crowd and he couldn’t box eggs if he worked in an egg boxing factory. So, if he wants to get in here I’ll give him a final yoke, bare-knuckle if you want.”
KSI didn’t take these remarks lightly. He later responded by saying, “I think I had heard Conor saying that I can’t box and this and that. It was pretty embarrassing for him because AJ was like, ‘Nah nah, that’s my guy,’ so he looked a little bit stupid there.”
He continued, “But with Conor, clearly I think he wants a bite at the cherry. He wants a piece of the king, and he understands that this right here is where the money is at.”
