Conor McGregor may be the biggest name that the sport has ever seen The Irishman was the first fighter to break through to the mainstream audience. There has been a lot of speculation on when McGregor will return to the Octagon, with many hopes being December, but that now looks unlikely.
McGregor’s Career So Far
McGregor has been the face of MMA for over a decade. Known for his exciting style and trash talk, McGregor paved the way for the modern-day UFC. He has achieved a lot throughout his career, most notably becoming the first double champion in the company’s history. The 35-year-old has a record of 22-6 and has beaten the likes of Eddie Alvarez, José Aldo, and Max Holloway. It is safe to say that whenever the former champion returns to the Octagon, many eyes will watch the contest.
Conor McGregor Next Fight
McGregor is coming off a loss to long-time rival Dustin Porier, where he suffered a nasty leg injury. He has been on the shelf since July 2021. McGregor will fight Michael Chandler on his return to the Octagon. There is a lot of excitement for the fight as they are both big names in the sport and love to put everything on the line. The two fighters have already gone head-to-head as coaches in The Ultimate Fighter. During the series, you could see some tension between the two competitors, making the fight even better. The bout was looking like it was going to take place in December, but it looks like that won’t happen.
The USADA Situation
It is because McGregor took himself out of the USADA testing pool. It means that when he returns, he will have to wait six months before he can fight again. The result is that the earliest he can fight is the beginning of next year. Taking to Twitter, McGregor had some harsh words about the agency.
“Early next year, hopefully… Tell the commission the story because I’m being kept from my livelihood here.”
When McGregor fights, it is good for the UFC to go to the sport as it will bring many more eyes to the products than most other bouts.
