In just one of a series of late-night tweets, Conor McGregor publicly defended Paddy the Baddy after he was dubbed a “dollar store Conor McGregor” by AEW Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman, AKA ‘MJF’:
Conor McGregor Defends The Baddy
Conor’s support for Paddy stems from the social media barbs exchanged between ‘MJF’ and Paddy Pimblett. They went back on forth on Instagram after MJF claimed that professional wrestling is “riskier” than MMA. Paddy and several MMA fighters took issue with these comments, leading to a series of exchanges:
MJF has recently spent time at Barstool Sports to promote AEW. Paddy is a Barstool athlete, leading fans to believe that the argument is most likely a “work”. Paddy excels at self-promotion, so it wouldn’t be hard to imagine him making an appearance at AEW. He wouldn’t be the first UFC fighter to do so either – Jorge Masvidal enjoys an ongoing relationship with the promotion.
All Change at UFC 282
Paddy the Baddy will fight next on December 10th at UFC 282. He takes on Jared Gordon, who has won four of his last five fights.
The event was plunged into chaos last night, however, as news broke that Jiri Prochazka had vacated the belt due after suffering a serious injury. As a result, there was a re-shuffle in the main event, which saw Jan Blachowicz vs Magomed Ankalaev promoted to the Light Heavyweight title fight.
Not long after, Damon Martin announced that Paddy’s bout with Gordon would be promoted to the co-main event:
This came as a shock to many fans, but it just another example of the UFC’s faith in ‘Paddy the Baddy’ to be a genuine needle mover. This is without question the biggest spot of Paddy’s young career. Not only will it be his first fight on PPV, but he will also feature as the co-main event, in just his fourth UFC appearance. Not even Conor McGregor can claim that.
How do you think Paddy Pimblett will fare in his first PPV Event?
