McGregor has had a fantastic career where he has achieved a great deal inside of the UFC Octagon. The former double champion has held the featherweight and lightweight championships. He has headlined plenty of events for the UFC. There has been a lot of talk about his return to the sport against Michael Chandler. McGregor’s return to action has excited many people. Many people adore the Irishman, but he also has a lot of haters.
Leon Edwards On What McGregor Has Done For The Sport
In a recent interview with Simon Jordan, Edwards gave his thoughts on the megastar.
“For me, he’s great for the sport. He’s brought the sport forward to the casual fans. He’s one of these guys you either like or don’t like. He is who he is, but as far as what he’s achieved in the sport, you can’t take that away from him.
“He did become the first ever two division world champion so even though he talks all this s***, he is actually a good fighter as well behind it. For the sport, it definitely helped the sport. It didn’t take nothing away from it, it definitely gave it more as far as like pushing it for the mainstream.”
Edward Speaks On Conor McGregor As A Person
He also said what he thinks of McGregor as a person.
“I’m not an admirer of his. I’m judging him from the competitive part of it. The self-promotion part of it… For me, I couldn’t give two s**** about his personal life, you know. It’s more about what he’s achieved in the game.”
He became the first-ever two-division world champion. Even though he talks a lot of trash, he is also a good fighter. For the sport it helped the sport. It didn’t take anything away from it; it gave it more as far as pushing it for the mainstream.
McGregor is a great competitor and seeing him return to the UFC will be interesting.
