Conor McGregor has been a mainstay for Bareknuckle FC promotion ever since he acquired an interest in the company. For the Philadelphia-based promotion, that remains a double-edged sword, as McGregor often lands them in the news for interesting reasons.
McGregor gave a rousing speech to a crowd in Philadelphia, opening with a line he used at a press conference at UFC 206. The crowd pop in 2025 was nowhere near as exciting as the one they gave at UFC 205, however.
“Oh Philly,” McGregor said. “Sorry I’m late. I don’t give a f*ck. I’m the big boss around here.”
Continuing, he finished with vigour and plenty of aggression. “I’m here to summon the gods of fighting to action,” Conor McGregor said.
He hinted at the cold reception BKFC received with the commission and fans when they first hit the scene. Many compared it to the pushback MMA received from people in American politics, particularly presidential candidates and Senator John McCain. As always, McGregor remained much more dramatic in his speech.
“May they turn our combatants’ knuckles to knives,” McGregor said. “And on Saturday night, may we all bleed in the honor of Philadephia’s rich fighting history. May we as Bareknuckle Fighting Championships organization – the alien of combat sports – rise above the night sky and rain down blows viciously and prove our worth against any deniers.”
Both the fighters in the main card have a history with Conor McGregor, as he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round to become the sport’s first-ever two-division champion. In the press conference before, he uttered the infamous “who the f**k is that guy” line towards Stephens, and there was bad blood ever since.
It carried over to the rest of McGregor’s speech, as he revealed he was openly rooting for Stephens’ opponent and his former foe Alvarez. “May the local boy [Alvarez] and former UFC lightweight world champion, former Bellator world champion, shut this man up [Stephens]…”
Fans Clown McGregor for Appearing to Be Intoxicated
Eagle-eyed viewers on YouTube and social media lit into Conor McGregor for appearing to be under the influence of cocaine. For years, speculation flew about his use of the drug, and he admitted to using it recreationally during his civil trial.
“High as a kite,” one viewer said. “I [sic] dont do drugs but I want to try what Connor is on for sure,” said another. A third commenter even called him “Conor de la Hoya”, comparing him to Mexican boxing legend and notorious cocaine abuser Oscar De La Hoya.
Hopefully, McGregor can get his use of the drug under control. Otherwise, the fighting world loses a great talent and he continues to waste his career and his health.
