Conor McGregor could make his return to The Ultimate Fighter after revealing the UFC has offered him the position once again.
McGregor last appeared on TUF 22 in 2015, where he and Urijah Faber were coaching teams of potential future UFC stars. Coaching his team to success back then, it is looking like the Irishman is hungry for more as he hints towards an iconic return not just in the octagon but out of it too.
The Notorious revealed on his Instagram that he very much likes the idea of returning. Starring in the upcoming remake of the 1989 classic Road House, cameras aren’t something the star is shy of. The UFC will be looking to build his return in the biggest way possible. Meaning there is no surprise that they want to utilize McGregor’s Hollywood skills for TUF.
“I like it. It is full immersion which is needed. I see fighters lining up. I know what’s ahead I been ready motherfuckers. #StayReady.”
UFC president Dana White added fuel to the fire by sharing the post to his story, suggesting that the announcement of McGregor’s return isn’t too far away.
Conor McGregor Set for UFC Comeback?
McGregor’s UFC comeback was all but confirmed on Monday when his coach John Kavanagh appeared on The MMA Hour. He said that negotiations were ongoing and that he would ‘bet his house’ on him returning this year.
In most seasons of TUF, both coaches square off at the end of the season and fight, meaning The Notorious will have to choose a dance partner. He hasn’t competed since his horrific leg break in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. A fight that many would like to see run back for the fourth time. Considering the bad blood between the two, it is something that the UFC has to look at.
Not to mention the current free agent, Nate Diaz. He left the organization following his win against Tony Ferguson. It is not known what the Stockton fighter plans to do next in his career. However, being a two-time opponent of McGregor and both having won one each, a trilogy fight could be discussed.
The most likely candidate seems to be Michael Chandler. After his electric post-fight interview when he knocked out Ferguson, he went on to call out McGregor. In the iconic callout, Chandler said he wanted him at his biggest and worst at 170 pounds. Fighting at Welterweight will suit both fighters considering they cut a considerable amount just to make 155 at Lightweight. Dana White has said on multiple occasions he likes that fight but recently shot down Chandler as an option when asked if anything was agreed for McGregor.
Although, following the news of McGregor being a coach for TUF Chandler was quick to respond.
There still isn’t a timeline for when McGregor’s comeback will be. Nonetheless, you can imagine Chandler will be patiently waiting for the phone call from the UFC to say he is next.
