Conor McGregor gives his thoughts on Nate Diaz, as we emerge closer to his final bout in the UFC.
UFC 279 New Main Event
UFC 279 has undergone major changes within the main card, including the main event, which is now Nate Diaz vs Tony Ferguson. This comes after Khamzat Chimeav did not make weight, coming in over 8lbs heavier than the limit. Khamzat has now been matched up with Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout. The general consensus across the MMA community is that the UFC 279 shuffle is more exciting than the previously scheduled bouts.
Fans have been calling for Diaz vs Ferguson for years, as it’s a dream fight stylistically. Once again, Diaz opens as the betting underdog against “El Cucuy”. With little to no build from the UFC due to last-minute changes, the fight sells itself. Two UFC veterans who have never crossed paths finally share the octagon in a five-round headliner.
Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz Potential Trilogy
Conor McGregor recently took to social media to praise Nate Diaz on his UFC career. He said the following “Congrats Nate Diaz on making it to the end of his contractual obligations with the UFC. An incredible feat. Fair play. Our trilogy will happen.”
McGregor faced off against Diaz twice in 2016. In their first bout, Diaz finished McGregor in the 2nd round via rear naked choke, in one of the greatest upsets the UFC had ever seen. They immediately ran it back a few months later, where McGregor took the decision win over Diaz.
Although these fights became very personal, with both fighters expressing their hatred for one another, McGregor seems to have overcome this as he pays his respects to the UFC veteran. If this trilogy ever takes place, could it be in Nate Diaz’s new promotion, “Real fights inc”? Or would Diaz be enticed back to the UFC for one last bout? Wherever it takes place, fans are guaranteed to be entertained.
