Recently, Conor McGregor left remarks on Dustin Poirier‘s hospital stay due to a staph infection, sparking a war of words on Twitter that brought some speculation to a fourth fight between the pair. Conor McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4-0 UFC) and Dustin Poirier (29-7 MMA, 21-6-0 1 NC UFC) have a long history together, spanning three fights and many social media back-and-forths.
The first fight between the pair ended when the “Notorious” defeated the “Diamond” by way of TKO. Seven years later, at UFC 257, Poirier defeated McGregor by KO, and just six months later, Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor again. This time, the fight stopped in the first round when McGregor’s leg snapped.
Many asked about a fourth fight, but Poirier dispelled those rumours at UFC 271, saying: “The only reason I’d do it is for money. I beat him two times in a row. Can I best my two performances?”
Recently, Dustin Poirier disclosed that he entered the hospital due to a staph infection, and he reported that the infection failed to respond to antibiotic treatment in the last 24 hours. Most likely, Poirier has developed a strain of Methillicilin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus or MRSA. This is a strain of staph infection that does not respond to antibiotics. This infection can often be dangerous and result in permanent scarring, other disabilities, or death.
Conor McGregor Reflects Mockingly on Poirier’s Situation
After Poirier posted a picture to Instagram of his swollen foot and hospital stay, Brett Okamoto broke the news on Twitter. McGregor gave remarks in a tongue-in-cheek manner, tweeting: “Heal up soon scruffy knickers”.
On the other hand, Poirier responded with some fire of his own, saying: “You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again!?”
However, McGregor Got the Last Word, at Least for Now: “Ye I’m in Amsterdam Jacked Like Van Damn. You Weren’t Just Hurt Pal. You Were Scared Hurt Don’t Forget It. I’m Coming Back to Put You in a Box. Full of It. I’m Sending You off This Earth. Permanent. Stay Waiting for the Road House as Well Pal You and the Missus Will Love It.”
Poirier has yet to reply, but one can bet that what comes McGregor’s way will be sure to be acrimonious. If McGregor’s remarks were enough to re-escalate tension, they could fight again, possibly in McGregor’s return to the UFC.
How does a fourth fight between the two play out, even without its booking?
