Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor return is still up in the air. He has voiced his frustration once again over his continued absence from the Octagon, directing his ire towards UFC CEO Dana White.
McGregor, who hasn’t fought since sustaining a serious injury in his 2021 trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier, is eagerly awaiting his comeback, which is anticipated to be a grudge match against Michael Chandler this summer.
The Irish fighter, renowned for his past successes in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions, has been out of action since fracturing his left tibia and fibula during his clash with Poirier. Despite his absence from competition, McGregor made an appearance as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter 31 alongside Chandler, setting the stage for a potential showdown between the two at middleweight.
McGregor has expressed his intention to return at UFC 302 towards the end of June, eyeing a debut in the middleweight division against Chandler. However, despite announcing his desired timeframe, McGregor is still awaiting official confirmation of his comeback date, leaving him increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress.
The 35-year-old fighter boldly asserted that he has been treated more negatively by the promotion during his hiatus than any other fighter past or present. His impatience reached a boiling point when he took to Instagram Stories to demand, “Get this f*cking date set,” alongside a video of his altercation with Chandler during the filming of TUF 31.
Conor McGregor Return: Tells Dana White to Set Date For Return, UFC 300?
Dana White Provides Update
Responding to speculation about McGregor’s summer return, Dana White promptly dismissed the suggested date, emphasizing that the UFC will announce McGregor’s comeback internally when the time is right. “When Conor’s ready to fight, you know we’ll announce it. That’s what we do,” White stated during a media briefing after UFC 297.
The question remains: will Conor McGregor make his long-awaited return to the Octagon this year? Only time will tell.
