An unexpected rivalry has started to peak its head on social media this month. UFC superstar Conor McGregor and UFC legend Matt Brown have been exchanging disses in the media as of late with “The Notorious” taking personal digs at Brown this morning.
Matt Brown’s Record-Breaking KO
Issues started following Matt Brown’s record-breaking first-round knockout win at UFC Charlotte on May 13th. McGregor took his thoughts about the record to Twitter,
“Matt Brown, at 42 years of age, now holds the joint highest KO’s inside the UFC with 13KO’s. Him and “The Beast” Lewis are tied. I hold 8 KO’s inside the UFC currently, at 34 years of age. I’m getting this record.”
Brown replied by challenging McGregor to a fight for the record. McGregor dismissed the challenge, saying it was a “woeful attempt” by Brown.
Brown’s BYM Appearance
Matt Brown appeared on the BYM podcast with Michael Bisping and Anthony Smith to talk about his KO record. During the podcast, Brown had some harsh words for McGregor’s choice of lifestyle.
“Everything you see, it’s him drinking and getting coked up, or he’s juiced out of his mind. That’s f*cking bum life to me. All that money don’t make you not a bum. You’re still a bum to me, bro. When you step in the cage, you’re still a bum to me.”
Brown gave McGregor credit for his past accomplishments, but maintained that “at this point he’s a bum.”

Conor McGregor’s Deleted Tweet
This time Conor didn’t reply immediately but waited over 2 weeks to send out a now-deleted tweet bringing up Matt Brown’s troubled past.
“Matt Brown, heroin addict”
McGregor followed this tweet up by quote-tweeting a video of Donald Cerrone’s head-kick knockout over Matt Brown with the caption “Ya’ll wanna see a dead body?”. Brown went right back at McGregor stating that it was “*former user* vs current coke addict”, alluding to McGregor’s presumed cocaine consumption. Brown also replied to the video,
“This guy woke up, did a bump, and started tweeting. I love it. I don’t know how to post gifs and shit wouldn’t be hard to find one of him getting his face smashed lol”.
Brown then shared his thoughts on how McGregor handled his loss to Khabib.
“Conor cried in the locker room getting hugs from coaches. I got the fuck back up and moved on. We are not the same.”
This unexpected rivalry between Matt Brown and Conor McGregor will probably never culminate in the two meeting inside the Octagon, but did Conor McGregor take it a step too far this time?
