Conor McGregor has hinted at an announcement with Turki Alalshikh after discussions with the Saudi sports kingpin.
Conor McGregor’s next move in the combat-sports world remains unknown. Since succumbing to a crippling knee injury against Dustin Poirier in 2021, he is yet to step back into competition.
‘The Notorious’ has stayed vocal however – showing interest in numerous matchups. Initially he was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler in MMA in July, before pulling out due to injury. Additional callouts include a trilogy with Nate Diaz as well as a return to the boxing ring.
McGregor’s love for boxing has been reflected by his attendance at recent boxing events. Most recently he was seen in the audience at Joshua/Dubois at Wembley Stadium, which was part of Riydah Season.
It was at this event that the Irish superstar was seen engaging in conversation with Alalshikh – in the midst of the sold out stadium.
Conor McGregor Teases Announcement After Talks With Turki Alalshikh
Whilst being interviewed by Jim White of talkSPORT, McGregor revealed his conversations with Alalshikh were far more extensive.
McGregor said he has had multiple phone calls with the Saudi boxing tycoon and that an announcement is soon to come.
McGregor said: “Turki is the man. His Excellency is the man. He’s had the shaking of the combat sports world.”
“He’s been mending rivalries and making business happen in the industry.”
The boxing world has long come under fire for stopping the ‘biggest’ fights from happening. Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi’s General Entertainment Authority, has been said to have solved this issue.
In Debt to Turki Alalshikh
McGregor continued: “We are all in debt to that man and I have a very good personal relationship with him.”
“I’ve got some big announcements for myself in the Saudi region. I was on a call with him only yesterday.”
“We have some big, big things coming up including in the boxing realm as well.”
It is unclear whether McGregor is hinting at competing in the boxing ring again, or simply talking of business engagements with Alalshikh.
Recently the Irishman became a minority owner of Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships [BKFC], showing that his business ventures outside of competing are far from over.
At this point in time, McGregor still has two fights left on his UFC contract. Due course will tell us who his comeback fight will be – and there is no shortage of fighters chomping at the bit for that matchup.
