Conor McGregor has hinted at big news coming soon, teasing future possibilities on social media.
The Irish fighter shared an in-depth analysis of his recent training footage, which has since gone viral.
Conor McGregor Breaks Down Training Footage and Hints at Exciting Career Update
Conor McGregor is well-known for his devastating striking, particularly his powerful left hand, that helped him dominate the UFC in two weight divisions. However, the Irishman also has solid ground skills, as demonstrated in recent training footage that surfaced online.
In the video, McGregor uses his knee to control his opponent before smoothly transitioning into an armbar. As the clip gained attention, McGregor took to X (formally Twitter) to break down his technique while also hinting at an exciting update about his career. This was when he tweeted saying;
“Partner went for X-guard, but without control of my back leg, I can step up and over into reverse knee on belly with good balance and composure. I then slot my lead knee to block his hip fully while also controlling both his wrists. Now I have both knees on him, applying my full weight, and no hands to fight. Very heavy.”
McGregor then went on to explain the effectiveness of the position in MMA when he stated;
“The position I’m in here isn’t your typical knee on belly, as I’m completely upright. This allows me full torque for powerful finishing blows, unlike the typical rabbit punches. When my partner reaches for the ‘Octopus guard,’ a technique gaining popularity for sweeping or getting up, I clamp down on his shoulder. The shoulder clamp is underutilized and very effective, in my opinion.”
He then went on to discuss his approach, emphasising his mindset in a fight;
“John Kavanagh has a shoulder clamp system from the bottom position that we use with great success at SBG. If your shoulder is clamped down, you have to pause for a moment. From there, I step to the back to avoid the legs, then move into the armbar. I had a tight clamp here, and though there may have been a moment to release it before going for the armbar, I’m fully in position to finish the fight with strikes. My goal is a knockout finish.”
McGregor kept going, asserting that his success is not only about his left hand, but positioning, accuracy, and ferocity in follow-up strikes;
“People often credit my left hand for my KOs, but they don’t understand fighting. It’s the positioning and the follow-up that gets me the wins.”
He then finished with a nod to his training partner, Lee Hammond, a black belt under Kavanagh;
“I’ve been training with Lee since he was a teen. We’ve been through hours of sparring, and now we’re still showing up. Training is going great, and I’m hoping for some good news soon, God willing! Thanks for the support.”
