UFC #4 ranked Bantamweight Cory Sandhagen has called out Sean O’Malley for stalling on fighting him
The two Bantamweight striking sensations Cory “Sandman” Sandhagen and “Suga” Sean O’Malley have been linked to a fight for some time. Given their shared love and expertise in the standup, the fight has been sought after by fans for years.
The fight may be up next with the two fighters both coming off losses. “Sandman” has clarified that he wants to fight “Suga” next.
In his last fight, Sandhagen fought Umar Nurmagomedov on the 3rd of August at UFC on ABC in Abu Dhabi. Umar Nurmagomedov, known for the elite-level wrestling associated with the Nurmagomedov name, won the fight by decision.
However, it was not the wrestling that was the difference maker with Umar getting the better of Sandhagen on the feet. For Sean O’Malley he last fought at UFC 306: Riyadh Season Noche UFC.
Sean faced off against the relentless Georgian cardio machine Merab Dvalishvili in the main event. Unfortunately for O’Malley, Dvalishvili handily beat then-champion O’Malley via decision to take the belt.
With “Suga” recovering from surgery to mend a torn labrum, Sandhagen is keen to ensure he is next in line to fight O’Malley.
Cory Sandhagen Says Sean O’Malley Is Ducking a Potential Fight
In an interview with The Schmo, Cory Sandhagen spoke about what is next for him. Looking at the division Sandhagen sees O’Malley as the only logical option.
With Deiveson Figueiredo and Petr Yan booked to fight in November at UFC Macau, there are few worthy challengers. When asked when he was looking to come back to competition, Cory told the Schmo:
“I told the UFC I wanted to come back in December, but there is no one to fight. [The UFC] are doing Figgy and Yan right now so those two guys are off the table now. I wouldn’t wait till July, I don’t know why he wants such a long lay-off, but that’s what happens when you have your first loss…
They should do me and O’Malley in April or March for a big, big main event somewhere.”
He went on to accuse O’Malley of ducking the potential fight with him, saying:
“Me and O’Malley is like the biggest fight you can make in the division outside of the title fight. Maybe even [the biggest] in the UFC that’s one of the best fights that the UFC can make.
O’Malley I wish would just quit acting like a troll like he won the last fight, he got dominated… and fight me! What are you doing?”
Raring to go and frustrated by the lack of opposition Sandhagen has made his plans clear. But with former champion O’Malley recovering from surgery, his return date is up in the air.
