Corey Sandhagen has expressed his desire to apologise to ex champion Khabib Nurmagomedov if he beats cousin Umar at UFC Abu Dhabi.
Umar Nurmagomedov and Cory Sandhagen will headline a unusually stacked fight night card this weekend in Abu Dhabi but Sandhagen could already have his sights set past his opponent.
This fight is key in the Bantamweight division with the winner set to take on the winner of the Las Vegas Sphere main event (Sean O’Malley Vs Merab Dvalishvili).
Umar Nurmagamadov is unbeaten, under the tutelage of his cousin Khabib, with 5 wins on his UFC record.
Cory Sandhagen looks to be the one to end the unbeaten and return to the top of the Bantamweight division and become champion.
The UFC veteran and ex champion has already told Daniel Cormier in a recent sit down interview that he plans to apologise to Khabib after he beats his cousin Umar.
Cory Sandhagen Is Very Confident Ahead of Saturday Night-
“I’m gonna prove that I’m better than [Umar],” Sandhagen said. “On Saturday, I plan on shaking Khabib’s hand, I plan on shaking Umar’s hand and apologizing and saying ‘I’m sorry that I had to beat you’…
“Go win a couple more fights, and we can fight [again] for the belt, that’s how I see it in my head. That’s how I’ve been seeing it in my head for the last 12 weeks.”
Sandhagen has got good reason to be confident following a string of great results including wins against Marlon Vera, Song Yarding and Rob Font.
Umar Nurmagamadov also has reason to believe he could become the new number 1 contender in the Bantamweight division with a 17-0-0 MMA record and a 5-0-0 UFC record.
Sandhagen looks in great shape ahead of his main event Saturday. Do you think he can beat Umar Nurmagamadov and become a contender for Sean O’Malley?
