The dream fight that never happened between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg still has to be one of MMA’s biggest what ifs. To this day, it is unfortunate that these two rivals never had the opportunity to once and for all settle the debate on who was the greatest women’s mix martial artist.
Just when we all thought that the heat from the rivalry had long faded, Cyborg took it upon herself to post on her social media to (in a way) mock the inaugural UFC bantamweight champion.
Cris Cyborg Mocks Ronda Rousey
“Poor girl, still suffering from CTE,” Cris Cyborg posted on X. “I hope she finally got a good mouth guard.”
Cyborg’s comments came out after Ronda’s interview with Valeria Livopetsky, where Ronda discussed what went on in the background before her loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.
“My first loss – like, my mouthguard was bad,” Ronda Rousey explained. “I literally came into that fight [with Holly Holm] concussed from slipping down some stairs already, you know, after all of these years of concussions. And then I had an absolutely terrible weight cut. Which, you know, that means you have less fluid in your brain to cut to protect it.”
“And I was out on my feet for the entire fight,” Ronda Rousey said. “I was trying to make it look like I wasn’t hurt, but I wasn’t there, cognitively. I couldn’t think as fast, I couldn’t judge distance, and just from that one fight, everybody thought, ‘Oh, she’s just a fraud’. And I know like, I’m the greatest fighter that has ever lived.”
Who knows if Ronda Rousey will even respond to Cyborg, and even if she does it is unfortunate that their rivalry has reignited over the discussion of CTE.
Was Cris Cyborg vs. Ronda Rousey a dream fight for you, fight fans? And if so, who do you think would have won the clash between the two polarizing pioneers of women’s MMA?
