Cage Warriors 136 was an absolute treat to anyone who was lucky enough to watch. It’s rare to ever see a Knockout of the Year contender, but we got two of them in Manchester on Saturday.
Cage Warriors 136 Main Event’s Flying Knee Finish
The main event of the back half of Cage Warriors’ Manchester double header was Christian Leroy Duncan challenging Djati Melan for the Middleweight Championship. Many thought Djati would retain by using his wrestling game and top control. Christian disagreed. See Christian’s finish below, courtesy of Cage Warriors.
The flying knee would get the job done in the third round, giving us a new Middleweight Champion. Christian Leroy Duncan looks every bit a world class fighter so far, but was this enough to get him the call up? Even if Cage Warriors 136 didn’t earn Christian the call to the UFC, fans will be eagerly awaiting his next fight. Who could blame them after a performance and finish like that?
The knee isn’t where the highlight reel would stop, though. It seemed every fight found an exciting finish, but the other one in particular we need to dive into was from the prelim portion of this card.
The Spinning Heel Kick Which May Be Knockout of the Year
Manny Akpan went to war with 6-1 Connor Hitchens, who took the fight on just a few days notice. Manny transitioned from facing what was viewed as an easier opponent, to a 6-1 killer without a word. When he spoke with us earlier this week, he still couldn’t take a smile off of his face. Manny truly doesn’t care who he fights and the fight game could use more men like him.
When you’re capable of what he did at Cage Warriors 136, I don’t think you have to. Catch the finish below, once again from Cage Warriors.
The spinning heel kick put an end to a fight that was razor-thin. Even throughout this hotly contested a fight, Manny was having fun in there. On one occasion, Manny even threw three consecutive spinning backfists which resulted in him being taken down. When back on his feet, he continued his barrage of spinning attacks which resulted in the finish itself.
Manny went out and proved that he is as unpredictable as it gets in this game, and that he can put anyone out on a moments notice. We can not wait to see Manny in there next for Cage Warriors.
Who should Manny Akpan fight next?
