UFC Lightweight Dan “The Hangman” Hooker explained his sneaky route to “snaking” Michael Chandler out of his fight with Conor McGregor
This weekend at UFC 305 in Perth Dan Hooker regained his spot amongst the top 5 in the Lightweight division. He returns to the top 5 after beating Mateusz “Gamer” Gamrot by decision a fight which earned both men the $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus.
Between 2020 and 2022 Dan had a bumpy ride in the UFC. Going 1-4 and dropping further down the rankings left many wondering what would be next for the Kiwi Kickboxer.
Tough losses to Dustin Poirier Michael Chandler and Islam Makachev are nothing to be ashamed of. But after Dan Hooker dropped weight to Featherweight in hopes of a win against Arnold Allen and came up short, many fans thought his time was up.
However, his performance this past weekend turned back the clocks and put him in the title picture at 155lbs. Beating Gamrot, a man few put their hand up to fight due to his wrestle-heavy style is no easy task.
The relentless march of the bloodthirsty “Hangman” and fine-tuned take-down defence proved too much for “Gamer”. Though a close fight his work on the feet and the damage dealt from Dan was enough to get his hand raised.
With his career reignited Dan Hooker is calling out anyone and everyone in the Lightweight division.
Dan Hooker Devises Devious Plan to Fight Conor McGregor Before Chandler
After getting the victory Dan Hooker called out UFC superstar “Notorious” Conor McGregor in his octagon post-fight interview. He explained his callout in his popular interview series “Pub Talk” hosted by Oscar Willis of TheMacLife.
When most hear a callout for the highly sought-after McGregor the assumption is they have money on their mind. But not “The Hangman”.
Dan Hooker faced Michael Chandler in what was Chandler’s UFC debut back in 2021. Chandler won the fight with an early TKO, which is part of Hooker’s motivation to callout McGregor.
He elaborated on his callout stating:
“Because I am an absolute troll, so, the biggest troll move you could do of all time is to snake that fight off Chandler. He waits all that time, and then Conor just fights me anyway. That would be gold. I would feel like the biggest snake troll of all time. I’d get my black belt in trollympics.”
A fight in the making Michael Chandler versus Conor McGregor is still without a date. The two hosted The Ultimate Fighter series 31 in 2023.
The usual battle of the coaches is pending after their UFC 303 bout was cancelled due to McGregor withdrawing through injury. Although a date fight at the end of 2024 was rumoured UFC president Dana White shut that idea down.
