UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has not taken comments made about him by Dana White lightly.
Dana White and UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling have been exchanging words in the media throughout the last week, with things continuing on Wednesday after the champion went to Twitter to call out Dana White for his antics when booking his upcoming title fight vs Sean O’Malley.
“You made a fight, the night of the fight, without a single word of it mentioned to me or checking on my injuries.”
Dana White Comments on Aljamain Sterling’s Issues
This is just the latest in what has been an ongoing feud between Sterling and White. Things all started on Saturday at UFC Fight Night Dern vs Hill, when Dana White was asked about Sterling’s recent comments on not being sure if he would be ready for August.
“Do you want me to explain what’s going on in the mind of f****** Aljo?.. Aljo’s one of those guys that can’t get out of his own way.. the fight is on.”
Aljamain went on his Podcast The Weekly Scraps and voiced his displeasure with Dana’s comments, wondering why he can’t be treated the same as some of the other superstars and champions.
“Why is it so hard for Dana to go … ‘Absolutely the fight is done, we spoke to him, this kid’s always shown up to the fights, always makes weight, always does the media stuff, we know he’s going to show up.”
Sterling also went on to say that he isn’t making any crazy demands in terms of money, just for some time. He also added that he wants to get on good terms with Dana in order to have a positive business relationship moving forward.
“I’m not asking for much. Don’t play with my name, bro. If we’re going to do this together, let’s get on the same page, and let’s do this sh*t the right way. I said I’m fighting, what else do you want me to do?”
Dana Sends a Threat
When asked about Sterling’s thoughts on being disrespected, Dana snapped right back in an exclusive interview with FanSided MMA on Tuesday,
“If you’re not healthy, don’t take the fight. We’ll have somebody else fight, do somebody else for the interim title.”
These comments come off as a bit harsh for someone who just defended his title on the last pay-per-view the UFC held on May 6th. It’s known that the two have had ongoing issues since Sterling became champion in March of 2021, but these issues are now making it to nearly every press conference White has attended as of late, putting them right in the spotlight. Hopefully White and Sterling will be able to reconcile their issues and work together moving forward.
